Classification Summary:
Under general supervision, responsible for the design, modeling, testing, delivery, and evaluation of training programs. Utilize knowledge, skills, and experience in all phases of the Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model. Collaborate with clients and customers to determine training requirements; designs training criteria based on client needs; develops training to ensure the appropriate learning occurs; and analyzes evaluation results to determine the effectiveness of training. Conduct both instructor led and online training. May participate or assist in the coordination of organizational and career consultation services.

Classification Standard Duties:
Conducts or facilitates general and specific training programs. Selects appropriate resources for training aids. Prepares lesson plans relevant to training material. Works with subject matter experts and content owners to identify training needs and objectives in order to develop the training. May recommend changes to the training programs to meet the needs of all learning types. Analyzes training evaluations in order to judge effectiveness of training sessions and to implement suggestions for improvements. May provide guidance to associate level trainers or student employees. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, or related field; Required Experience:Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:None; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge and understanding of adult learning principles, and of a wide range of training methods, collaboration, research and analysis techniques, and formats. Knowledge of curriculum development and preparation procedures. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Federal, state, and local training regulations. Group facilitation and training techniques. Knowledge of project and time management.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Teaching and facilitation skills. Skill in preparing training aids and plans. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Skill in active listening. Organizational skills and attention to detail.; ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Support conducting training needs analysis. This position will support the Director and Sr. Training Specialist in collaboration with NMSU colleagues and the university community to determine organizational development and training needs. These include conducting training needs analysis that consists of job–task analysis, organizational analysis, and person analysis to identify training needs, or training requirements requested by NMSU the organization, divisions, departments, and/or units.


Create or revise workplace job aids. Create and/or revise current job aids, toolkits, manuals, checklists, handbooks, quick reference guides, and/or training plans to meet the needs of all types of workplace learners. Recommend changes to the training programs/tools to meet the needs of all learning types.


Instructional design: Design and develop instructor-led and online training workshops and sessions for the organization, division, or departments. Utilize best practice training methodologies to design, develop, and validate instructor-led and online training. Create and analyze evaluations to test knowledge and skills acquired during the training. Evaluate quiz results of the training content to improve training delivery.


Instructional delivery: Follow best practice training strategy and design when delivering training. Utilize both training and facilitation skills to ensure trainees are engaged in the appropriate knowledge-transfer processing.


Utilize technology-based training wisely. Boost trainee motivation to learn and build self-efficacy.


Customer service: Utilize a ticketed system to respond to employee training requests, questions, and challenges. Utilize the training management system to help participants register for upcoming workshops, events, and sessions. Troubleshoot participant web-based training system issues to ensure timely completion of upcoming training requirements.
