Job Description

Provide various patient care activities, procedures, and other indirect assistance to the Medical Imaging Department.

Responsibilities

• Perform darkroom duties on a daily basis, including the daily process of strips, copying films, stocking film supplies, and repackaging film cartons for recycling.

• Responsible for the weekly upkeep of all computed radiography cassettes.

• Perform receptionist duties at the Medical Imaging front desk, interacting with patients by providing correct preparations and information regarding exams, directing patients and hospital personnel to appropriate areas, and directing phone calls to the appropriate area.

• Transport patients, completing observation worksheets, and coordinating patient flow with appropriate areas in and out of the department.

• Perform various indirect duties under the direction of a registered Medical Imaging technologist.

• Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients and self.

• Provide practical instruction for students and/or other healthcare professionals in areas such as computed radiography, department flow, policies, and procedures.

• Practice aseptic technique as necessary.

• Perform functions in different modalities (MRI, CT SCAN, etc.) and various direct patient care activities (venipuncture, EKGs) under the direction of a registered Medical Imaging Technologist.

• Independently and effectively prioritize job responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with multiple demands/requests.

• Set up and distribute contrast to the floors and work with radiologists and physician's offices to obtain confirmations for biopsies and needle aspirations.

• Implement downtime procedures in the department when the Medical Imaging computer systems are down, reorganizing workflow, and rerouting patients.

• Split studies in CT and correct accession numbers.

• Perform fileroom duties, interacting with medical staff and customers, filing films according to ACR standards, and conducting problem resolution.

• Maintain knowledge of and observe Universal precautions and Imaging Department Policies and Procedures.

• Conduct daily checks of blanket and contrast warmers and refrigerator temperatures.

• Responsible for computer input, modifying orders, credit charges, and adding charges, functioning competently with all computer systems.

• Demonstrate positive customer service and coworker relations.

• Participate in continuous quality improvement activities of the department and institution.

• Patient Group Knowledge: Must possess and demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for providing appropriate assessment, treatment, or care to identified patient ages.

• Competency Statement: Must demonstrate competency through initial orientation and ongoing validation to independently perform tasks as specified in the job description.

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
