LaSalle Network has partnered with a healthcare provider in Jacksonville, Florida for a remote Surgical Medical Coder position. They are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Surgical Medical Coder to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes to surgical procedures performed in their healthcare facility. The Surgical Medical Coder will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate documentation, optimal reimbursement and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. Surgical Medical Coder Responsibilities:

• Review operative reports, anesthesia records and other clinical documentation to accurately abstract surgical procedure details for coding purposes
• Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes to surgical procedures, diagnoses and services performed
• Ensure coding accuracy and completeness to support appropriate reimbursement and minimize denials
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
• Stay informed about updates to coding guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements related to surgical coding
• Perform regular coding audits and participate in coding-related education and training initiatives
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times
• Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external auditors as needed

Surgical Medical Coder Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in health information management or related field preferred
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required
• 4+ years of experience in surgical coding, preferably in a healthcare facility setting
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems
• Strong understanding of surgical terminology, anatomy, physiology and procedural techniques
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software preferred
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to maintaining coding accuracy, integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements
