The research group of Prof. Gelfand in the Division of, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on the visualization and analysis of optical spectroscopic integral field unit (IFU) data. The successful applicant will become a member of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) V project Local Volume Mapper (LVM), which is currently conducting the large optical spectroscopic survey of the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds. In addition to working with the LVM team of the reduction of this data, in particular the visualization tools needed to effectively disseminate this data to the broader scientific community. In addition to work on LVM, the successful applicant is expected to contribute to ongoing optical spectroscopic studies of high-energy astrophysical sources - including active galactic nuclei (AGN) and supernova remnant (SNRs) - as well as lead their own research projects.

Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astronomy, astrophysics or related field. Demonstrated experience working on data visualization and.or optical IFU data is also greatly preferred.
