Job Description

We are looking for a skilled part-time 3D Character Artist to join the team and help create characters based on scanned meshes. These are meshes are made from photogrammetry scans of the real person. The mesh will be used in cinematic quality animations. So realism and high definition is ideal.

Responsibilities:

• Perform high-quality retopology on scanned 3D models, optimizing them for smooth bipedal animation and generic facial animations.
• Create full-figure models and busts
• Ensure models are optimized to around 60k polygons with retopologized quads.
• UV unwrap models and create detailed Diffuse, Normal, and Roughness maps.
• Maintain an 8k resolution for textures for high-detail and photorealistic outputs.
• Pay special attention to detailed regions such as hands, fingernails, and face, for basic animations

Requirements:

• Proven experience in 3D retopology, preferably in character modeling.
• Strong understanding of topology, edge flow, and deformation for animation.
• Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as Maya, ZBrush, Blender, or similar.
• Experience with UV unwrapping and texture baking.
• Ability to create high-quality Diffuse, Normal, and Roughness maps.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve photorealistic results with high-detail models.
• Attention to detail, especially in areas requiring extra detail for close-up shots.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Portfolio showcasing relevant retopology work, with an emphasis on photorealism. Include before and after examples if possible.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with photogrammetry and scanned data.

Term:

• 10-15 hours/week
• Paid contract role (2 months, initially). Fully Remote, Global.
• We’re happy to offer you more work at the end of a successful contract.
