The primary purpose of the Public Safety Officer position is to screen students, patients, staff, faculty and visitors entering the facilities of the University for proper identification. Through observation and patrol, safeguard institutional property, identify security issues and enforce institutional rules and regulations. In emergencies, facilitate the orderly evacuation of the buildings and structures.
KEY FUNCTIONSPatrol Patrols university buildings and property on foot to prevent theft, vandalism or fire.
Calls for Service Responds to calls for service and provides requested services in a timely manner and in accordance with policies and procedures.
Screening Actively screens all persons entering university facilities; challenges persons without appropriate identification and all suspicious persons.
Other Duties as Assigned Other duties to include, but not limited to, emergency recall and/or may be required to remain onsite or work extended hours during man-made or natural disasters and unusual occurrences on campus. Local or long distance travel may be required for training or other business purposes occasionally.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience Required: One year of relevant work experience. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license.
