PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assign, direct, and observe production team members and workflow to ensure daily fulfillment of safety, customer demand, quality, and cost standards for assigned department or value stream. Maintain adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure team member accountability and performance.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively promote a Zero Injury Safety culture. Engage in proactive safety observations and participate in incident investigations.

  • Assure that established policies, rules and regulations, procedures and the Collective Bargaining Agreement are followed.

  • Maintain knowledge of processes and equipment within assigned area.

  • Collaborate with Planner/Scheduler to develop daily production plan by reviewing production schedules, making job assignments, estimating worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment, and coordinating material flow with other departments.

  • Lead daily team start-up meetings and GEMBA boards to review previous work day’s progress and today’s plan.

  • Minimize disruptions to flow within operations; create standard work for what to do when flow is disrupted, resolve or escalate to get timely resolution as needed.

  • Monitor and track daily performance metrics on value stream GEMBA board, including safety, delivery, quality, and productivity, including oversight to real-time transactions and resolving transaction errors.

  • Ensure adequate tools, fixtures, routings, prints and programs are available and maintained to efficiently produce quality parts and minimize disruptions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address inefficiencies and opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Assess and address training needs of employees and critical work centers.

  • Ensures timekeeping and personnel records of assigned team members are completed accurately and timely.

  • Identify issues and use the value stream team or support team to determine root cause and implement corrective or preventive actions (e.g. implement counter measures to disruptions to flow, missed pitch, scrap/ rework / defects, excess inventory, OT).

  • Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 1 year of related supervisory or manufacturing technical support experience, OR

  • Associate’s Degree in a technical/related field with 5 years related manufacturing supervisory or lead role, OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years in a manufacturing supervisory or leadership role.

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Due to the nature of the products currently being manufactured at Viking Pump, we adhere to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In turn, we are only able to hire US Persons.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and make decisions using business metrics and data.

  • Experience in a manufacturing setting, machining, assembly, quality.

  • Must be customer focused and know about internal and external customer relationships.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have ability to influence without direct authority.

  • Self-motivated, with good organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks.

  • Must work well in a team environment, experience working within a union environment a plus.

  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.

  • Must be able to collect data on department metrics and create/maintain charts and graphs in Excel and make basic presentations in PowerPoint.

  • Proficient with MRP systems (JD Edwards preferred, but not required).

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking through the factory.

  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.

  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.

  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.
