PennLab Summer Internship

Penn Medicine's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks candidates for available research internship positions for undergraduate students who are underrepresented in medicine*. This internship will be for eight (8) weeks starting on Monday, June 2, 2025, and concluding on Friday, July 25, 2025.

Applicants must have successfully completed their freshman year of undergraduate studies, have an interest in STEM, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. In addition, applicants must have successfully completed 1 full year of Biology and Chemistry by the start of the program. Applicants should also have strong communication skills and a curiosity for pathology and laboratory medicine.

Responsibilities may include conducting research, compiling data, implementing ideas, helping to develop a study abstract, and participating in conferences and professional development activities. Candidates will also often work closely with other lab staff and personnel.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to further develop critical thinking skills, participate in research within Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, work with renowned University of Pennsylvania researchers, gain an introduction to laboratory career tracks and deliver an oral presentation to faculty, staff, and fellow interns at the conclusion of the program.

Qualifications
  • College/ University students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (including rising seniors)
  • Successfully completed at least one year of undergraduate studies
  • Interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) - No previous research experience is required
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 ("B") or higher
  • Applicants must have completed at least 1 year of Biology or Chemistry
  • Demonstrate an interest and potential to pursue a career in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
