Texas Children’s Hospital is a state-of-the-art 800 bed facility which houses 6 high acuity operating rooms and 4 Pediatric Subspecialty Intensive Care Units (84 rooms) including a dedicated ICU for liver transplant care. TCH receives 1600 outpatient hepatology referrals per year and has been the highest volume pediatric transplant program in the U.S. in the last 6 out of 7 years, with 34 children undergoing liver transplant in 2024. The Division of Pediatric GHN consists of more than 35 MD/DO faculty, 12 GHN fellows and 1 transplant hepatology fellow. The recruited faculty would join a highly collaborative group of 10 pediatric hepatologists with diverse areas of liver expertise. Transplant hepatology is well supported by 5 transplant coordinators, 1 clinical support coordinator, a transplant referral specialist, nursing manager, dedicated quality improvement and compliance team and transplant administrator. The TCH Cancer Center is home to an internationally recognized liver tumor program comprised of pediatric oncologists, liver surgeons, hepatologists, pathologists, interventional radiologists, pharmacologists and geneticists to provide state-of-the-art clinical care. The recently developed partnership with the MD Anderson Cancer Center will strengthen and expand this program.
Inpatient transplant hepatology care at TCH is multi-faceted and consists of a dedicated Liver Intensive Care Unit (LICU) team of pediatric intensivists, transplant surgery, transplant ID, and transplant-specific ancillary services. Other integral members of liver transplant care include transfusion medicine, interventional radiology, transplant immunology and the extracorporeal team (MARS, CRRT, and pheresis). Inpatient weeks on the hepatology service will be shared among 10 faculty and a key portion of clinical time will be devoted to the Hepatology Critical Care and Transplant Consult Service (HCTx).
The Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a pediatric hepatologist to join the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Texas Children’s Hospital located in the Texas Medical Center (TMC) Campus in Houston, TX.
Candidates with Pediatric Transplant Hepatology certificate of added qualification (CAQ) along with clinical and research expertise in hepatology-focused ICU and transplant care and pediatric liver tumors will be given priority.
The ideal applicant should be eligible to be an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics with an established or aspiring clinical niche and interest in hepatology ICU care and liver tumors. Interested and qualified candidates are invited to submit a statement of interest along with their CV to Benjamin Shneider MD, George Peterkin Endowed Chair, Head of Division and Chief of Service, at Benjamin.Shneider@bcm.edu .
