Job Description

Why Join Us?

We’re a growing, full-service CPA firm in the North Central Massachusetts area offering tax, audit, accounting, and advisory services to a diverse client base across multiple states. As our practice expands, we are seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Tax Preparer who specializes in fiduciary taxation, including the preparation of Form 1041 and related trust and estate compliance work. This role is part-time and offers flexibility. We are looking for someone who can work approximately 30 hours per week during tax season, and 20 hours per week post tax season.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in fiduciary returns—whether coming from a CPA firm, law firm, or private trust department—to join a collaborative, people-first team. You’ll play a key role in supporting our trust and estate clients while contributing to the continued growth of our tax practice.

Summary of Responsibilities

The Trusts & Estates Tax Preparer will prepare and review fiduciary income tax returns (Forms 1041), trust accountings, and related filings. This individual will work closely with firm leadership, attorneys, and clients to ensure accurate compliance and effective tax planning for trusts, estates, and high-net-worth families.

How You Will Contribute

• Prepare fiduciary income tax returns (1041s), gift tax returns (709s), and related schedules
• Review trust documents, wills, K-1s, and financial statements to ensure proper tax treatment
• Assist with estate and trust accountings, distributions, basis tracking, and year-end summaries
• Communicate with attorneys, trustees, executors, and beneficiaries to gather required information
• Provide guidance on trust structures, distribution planning, and fiduciary requirements
• Research trust-related tax issues and stay current with changes in fiduciary tax law
• Maintain detailed workpapers and ensure compliance with IRS and state filing requirements
• Assist with extension filings, e-file management, and deadline monitoring
• Support the tax department during peak season with related compliance needs
• Contribute to internal best practices and process improvements
• Help identify opportunities to enhance client service and expand trust-related engagements

What We Need From You

3–5 years of experience preparing fiduciary income tax returns (1041s)
• Experience reviewing or interpreting trust documents, wills, and estate plans
• Strong understanding of fiduciary accounting, distributable net income (DNI), and K-1 allocations
• Experience working with attorneys, trustees, or trust officers strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• CPA or EA is a plus but not required
• Ability to manage multiple trust engagements simultaneously
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
• Familiarity with CCH Axcess, ProSystem, or similar tax software is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• A team-oriented mindset and a high level of professionalism

What We Offer

We provide a supportive, flexible, and growth-focused work environment with:
• Flexible schedule options
• Remote work opportunities depending on experience
• Paid time off and holidays
• Professional development and continuing education support
• A collaborative team environment with direct access to firm leadership
• Exposure to a wide variety of tax, trust, and advisory engagements

We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected classification. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees.
