LaSalle Network has partnered with a food manufacturing company to hire a
Packaging Engineer. The ideal candidate will have expertise in assigned ingredients and packaging materials, ensuring inbound raw materials meet quality and food safety standards. Responsibilities include auditing suppliers, managing documentation, resolving non-conformances, conducting ongoing supplier reviews and cultivating relationships. The
Packaging Engineer collaborates with procurement and R&D teams for strategic sourcing, business continuity and innovative commercialization.
Packaging Engineer Responsibilities: - Perform risk-based audits on new and existing suppliers, ensuring conformity to relevant standards and assessing potential risks to the supply chain
- Contribute to the selection process for potential new suppliers, verifying alternative materials and suppliers
- Evaluate the effectiveness of non-conformance corrections and corrective action/plans
- Ensure timely, consistent, and accurate execution of all audits and audit reports
- Manage the supplier portfolio by reviewing documents and ensuring compliance within the Quality Management System (QMS) for food safety, quality and regulatory requirements
- Resolve escalated supplier non-conformance collaboratively with sites and suppliers, using ongoing performance for reviews
- Supervise and coach suppliers in quality, compliance and food safety per company expectations
- Cultivate relationships and expertise within the supply base for assigned raw material categories
- Stay updated on industry food safety and regulatory standards, identifying and addressing potential risks and informing senior management of issues and solutions
Packaging Engineer Requirements: - Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry or other food related degree
- Proficient in areas such as food law, food technology, food chemistry, microbiology, or agricultural supply chain practices
- Possesses the ability to assess and manage risk, making well-informed decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a diplomatic approach
- Mandatory HACCP certification, and preference for FSMA PCQI and GFSI (FSSC) certifications
- Preferred qualification as a lead auditor
- Demonstrates robust auditing skills with a minimum of 2 years of experience
- Exhibits strong analytical ability, leadership skills, and effective teamwork
- Proficient in using computer software, including MS Office, SAP, SharePoint and supplier management systems
