Purpose of Position

The Department of Music at the University of North Dakota is seeking a 9-month open rank faculty position to serve as the Director of the Music Therapy Program beginning August 16, 2024.

This will be a 9-month position and may be tenure-track or an offer of tenure may be made based on a candidate’s documented record of achievement and subject to approval from the Department, College, University, and the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education. This position is contingent upon the availability of funding. This position will be primarily on campus (not remote).

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor candidates must meet the school/college/university standards for appointment to the rank, including significant experience/accomplishments in the candidate’s area of expertise. Assistant/Associate/Full Professor candidates must also meet State Board of Higher Education guidelines for consideration of tenure. Full Professor candidates must also have national distinction, international recognition, and a substantial scholarly record in the candidate’s area of expertise. Duties & Responsibilities

The UND Department of Music is seeking a dynamic leader to head its music therapy program. The initial year will consist of teaching Introduction to Music Therapy, teaching other essential study music courses, and assisting with program approval with AMTA and NASM. All faculty are expected to contribute service within the department, college, university, and community and to participate in the department’s recruitment and outreach initiatives.     Department of Music.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Doctorate in music therapy or related field completed by August 15, 2024.
  • Five years of music therapy clinical practice (or equivalent in part-time employment).
  • Board Certification by Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading a university music therapy program.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision for music therapy.
  • Experience in teaching music courses at the college level.
  • Scholarly evidence that shows potential for publishing original research.
