To coordinate the enforcement of State food laws. This advanced professional position exists to establish, coordinate, and carry out a detailed work plan that effectively ensures facility and equipment compliance with applicable statutes and regulations for food establishments under the Food and Feed Safety Division’s jurisdiction by, (1) evaluating a food establishment’s new construction, remodel, or conversion through the plan review process, (2) providing consultation to clientele and consumers on State food safety laws and regulations, and (3) providing support to State and local food inspection staff by answering questions and providing guidance on standards and enforcement options including on-site guidance in the field.

Three years of experience conducting retail food regulatory work (i.e., inspection, investigation, plan review, retail HACCP); or equivalent.
OR
A bachelor’s degree in biological or physical science, food science, nutrition, environmental health, or closely related field PLUS two (2) years of experience conducting retail food regulatory work (i.e., inspection, investigation, plan review, retail HACCP); or equivalent.
OR
A master’s degree in biological or physical science, food science, nutrition, environmental health, or closely related field PLUS eighteen (18) months of experience conducting retail food regulatory work (i.e., inspection, investigation, plan review, retail HACCP); or equivalent.
AND
More than three (3) years of advanced-level regulatory work (i.e., investigation, variance and HACCP, compliance, plan review) in food establishments at retail.
One or more of the following credentials:
Completed Plan Review for Food Establishments course, FD207, or equivalent.
Advanced retail specialized processing variance and HACCP knowledge and experience.
Experience reviewing construction plans for food establishments or conducting on-site plan review inspections.
Experience training and/or evaluating risk-based inspections of internal and external regulatory staff.
Experience leading or coordinating projects.
Food Standard Compliance Officers conduct investigations and inspections in the field as needed to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and rules. The work requires the ability to:
1. Occasionally maintain a stationary position for extended periods of time such as prolonged standing or sitting.
2. Ascend, descend ladders and steps.
3. Position self to move/transport food products during investigation and inspection work.
4. Traverse uneven and/or slippery walking surfaces.
5. Work in wet, hot, and cold environmental conditions.
6. Work in office and field locations.
7. Detect shades of product color to make appropriate product acceptability decisions.
8. Communicate effectively with supervisors and workers in both office and field workplace locations that may be noisy environments.
9. Detect product abnormalities through a sense of smell.
