As the Occupational Health Case Administrator, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support and guidance to employees across the organization regarding disability, health, and safety matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Telephonically evaluate employees who have been out of work and have a clearance by a provider to return to determine if a return-to-work physical examination is required by a contracted medical provider based on 19A or safety-sensitive job duties. Serve as an employee advocate for employees navigating disability, workers' compensation, and other health-related concerns, delivering exceptional customer service through effective verbal and written communication thereby increasing a collaborative relationship to maximize positive rehabilitation and return-to-work outcomes. Advocate for employees' well-being by facilitating timely access to medical care, ensuring adherence to treatment plans, and promoting wellness initiatives in collaboration with internal benefits programs and medical providers. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and competency of case management standards of practice for improving outcomes by educating injured/disabled employees or their legal representatives, case examiners, and serving as an advocate for the employer and its employees. Use advanced knowledge of types of injury, medications, co-morbidities, treatment options, treatment alternatives, and knowledge of job duties to recommend certain actions to case examiners (e.g., FMLA, ADA, Workers' Compensation, NYS Disability). Work with employer, physicians, and case examiners to modify job duties where practical to facilitate early return to work. Evaluate and modify case goals based on injured/disabled employee's improvement and treatment effectiveness. Independently manage workload, including prioritizing cases and deciding how best to manage each case effectively. Complete other duties, such as attend injured worker's appointments when appropriate, prepare status updates for submission to case examiners, and other duties as assigned. Monitor employees' recovery progress, track timelines for return to work, and collaborate with supervisors and case examiners to facilitate a safe and timely return to duties, incorporating any necessary work restrictions or accommodations. Schedule and coordinate medical appointments, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and facilitating return-to-work physicals and drug screenings as needed. Establish and maintain positive relationships with organizational leaders, health specialists, and external medical contractors to support safety efforts, injury prevention initiatives, and accident prevention plans. Maintain accurate records and reports related to employee work status, conducting trend analysis to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction opportunities. Collaborate with the Legal department on complex cases or unusual circumstances, providing guidance and recommendations to mitigate future exposure and enhance safety protocols. Participate in safety, well-being, and absenteeism team meetings, contribute to the development of metrics, and goals. Use organizational data and claims data in collaboration with our analytics team to do root cause analysis in collaboration with benefits broker and Excellus. Identify opportunities for ergonomic improvements to enhance employee comfort, safety, and job performance, and make appropriate recommendations. Perform DOT and Pre-employment drug & alcohol testing. Additional duties assigned. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in nursing. Registered Professional Nurse License in NY. At least 5 years of clinical nursing experience. At least 2 years of case management experience preferred. Working knowledge of Worker's Compensation, Disability, FMLA, and ADA regulations. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to perform a variety of routine duties involving the use of procedures and the application of clearly prescribed standard practice where the employee could make minor decisions and use some judgment. Ability to work from defined objectives and broad and varying policies, procedures, rules, or precedents. Plans and arranges own work while the supervisor provides some functional guidance. Details of accomplishing the objective are left to the position. Unusual situations are referred to supervision. Comprehensive knowledge of protections offered under ADA with or without coordination to leaves. Strong knowledge of state laws and regulations related to health and welfare and leave. Computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, UKG, and website navigation. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. Strong customer service skills. This position is eligible to participate in a hybrid work model. Hybrid work is a flexible working model where employees work partly in the office and partly remote from an approved location.
