Job Description

In our Roseland, NJ office, we have a full-time in-house position for an experienced Float Legal Secretary . In this position, you will provide interim coverage and a variety of assignments, which will necessitate the ability to seamlessly integrate across various areas of law. Candidates must be self-starters with strong organizational skills, document management abilities, and an aptitude to manage various priorities. Must have a friendly disposition and the flexibility to switch secretarial techniques from day to day and assignment to assignment. Qualified candidates must have prior experience in a float capacity, preferably 3+ years or more at a busy law firm that specializes in Family Law and general Litigation.

Position Requirements and Essential Duties Responsibilities:

To assist our family law practice, you must be proficient in trial preparation and litigation. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, grammatical, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage a large workload with dictation in a high-volume, fast-paced office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform general administration and secretarial tasks such as typing and proofreading documents, maintaining files, and answering phones.
  • Assist with call screening and directing.
  • Assist with the intake process for potential clients.
  • Create, organize, and maintain hardcopy and electronic client files.
  • Enter time entries of client work.
  • Serve as liaison between busy attorneys through interactions with clients, court staff, attorneys, prospective clients, and other supporting professionals and third parties through heavy electronic correspondence; 
  • Must be able to successfully communicate with clients, adversaries, and Courts, as well as handle high-volume work and dictation in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Assist with drafting, editing, collating, and finalizing correspondence, pleadings, motions, case information statements, and appellate applications.
  • Assist with gathering, organizing, compiling, and indexing documents received from clients, financial organizations, and businesses; propounding discovery demands and subpoenas on adversaries and/or relevant third parties.
  • Keep track of the attorneys' calendars. 
  • Tracking timelines for motion practice, pleading submissions, discovery exchanges, depositions, and deadlines.
  • Submit documents to the Court on paper and via JEDS or Appellate eCourts.
  • Contribute to the team by diligently and thoroughly completing assigned tasks, duties, and projects
  • Assists with other administrative duties as assigned.


Education & Experience: 

  • HS or GED Equivalent required.
  • 3+ years working in a busy NJ law firm. 
  • Knowledge of the NJ Civil Court System. 
  • Experience with the Child Support Guideline program. 
  • Proficient in Office 365 software, iManage, and state and federal e-filing.


The annual compensation range for this position is between $60,000 and $65,000. Actual pay will be determined by education, certifications, experience, and other job-related considerations permitted by law. Only those who meet the core requirements will be reviewed and contacted for an interview. This is a full-time position the work schedule is M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for overtime as needed. Clearance of standard background screening is required before an offer of employment.
