Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Resort in Riverside, Iowa is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of the golf course as well as the associated outdoor landscaping throughout the resort. This is accomplished through the selection, training, coaching and daily direction for the golf course grounds staff. Course maintenance includes irrigation, seasonal agronomic practices, and the application of chemicals and fertilizers in order to ensure the course is maintained at a high level that upholds our brand as one of the top courses in the region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Plans and supervises the daily maintenance of the golf course and resort grounds.
• Responsible for effectively managing, delegating duties and the performance of department staff, inclusive of hiring, training, coaching and performance management of the golf grounds staff.
• Trains staff on the safe operation of all equipment, safe work practices and documents all training.
• Schedules staff to ensure appropriate staffing levels to complete all work.
• Creates daily work plan for all staff and oversees all work to ensure it is completed to meet our quality expectations.
• Oversees fertilizer and chemical applications on the grounds.
• Oversees the maintenance of drainage and irrigation systems.
• Oversees the planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees both on the golf course as well as throughout the resort grounds.
• Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive bunker network included on the course.
• Oversees maintenance of all equipment and ensures appropriate records are kept.
• Identifies and partners with appropriate contractors and vendors as needed.
• Plan and manage to departmental annual budget.
• Manages guest concerns as needed.
• Maintain a positive working relationship with Golf Pro Shop leadership and staff.
• Periodically serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the resort.
Requirements:
2-year degree in Turf Management, or equivalent, required.
CGCS (Certified Golf Course Superintendent) designation preferred.
Minimum of three years of prior experience operating in a management capacity overseeing golf grounds staff required.
Prior experience working golf grounds at a high-end golf course preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of golf facility construction principals.
Prior experience in bunker maintenance desired.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices.
Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding the management of golf courses.
Must possess current pesticide applicators license, or have the ability to obtain one.
Must demonstrate effective problem-solving, decision-making, attention to detail and verbal/written communication skills.
Compensation:
$70,000 – $90,000 per year.
