Title:  Fall 2024 - Co-Op/Intern: Real Estate

The TECO Energy Internship & Cooperative Education Program offers college degree-seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The co-op program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study.

 

POSITION SUMMARY/DETAILS:

Primarily responsible for the coordination and administration of official records and document management of company real estate transactions, and records involving real property rights; and for researching and providing information concerning land rights which may be requested by both internal and external customers.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Maintain Real Estate electronic records using Company database, records retention schedules, files and database of agriculture, commercial, residential leases, and distribution/transmission easements.
  • Research Company and public records to provide inquiry responses for internal and external customers regarding Company land rights. Perform title searches utilizing governmental records or electronic sources of information to determine accurate ownership interest.
  • Research government agency requests and prepare responses including but not limited to release of easement, partial release of easement, vacating of alleys/rights-of-ways, and encroachments.
  • Run and Analyze workload reports to help manage the intake of projects into the department.

 

Physical Location of Co-op: 702 N Franklin St., Tampa, FL 33602.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly in a normal office environment

Preferred Availability: Part – Time (20-30 hours)

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:

  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

Degree : Business, Real Estate, Geography

  • Other: Open to others with an interest in commercial real estate

Preferred/Related Discipline:

  • Business Administration, Business Law, Construction. Not opposed to another discipline if you are interested in commercial real estate, real estate law, or contracts.

Year in School: Freshman or Sophomore

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Microsoft Suite
  • Mapping software (GIS, CAD, MicroStation)
  • Effectively communicate (oral and written skills) and maintain strong customer relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to make decisions concerning prioritizing work and handling problems in a timely manner.
