Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Office of Information Management and Analysis has an opening for an Environmental Scientist in the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP). Use your experience and knowledge of freshwater science and ecology with your collaborative skills to lead coordination of the SWAMP Bioassessment Program, a statewide aquatic resource monitoring program. The position is primarily remote-based, and the in-office location is based out of Sacramento at:

1001 I Street, 19 th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814, right in the heart of Downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

  1. Strong project management, organizational, communication and collaborative skills.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of diverse interdisciplinary teams, foster and maintain positive working relationships amongst team members.
  3. Knowledge and experience with freshwater science, ecology, conservation biology, fisheries, watershed science or another related field.
  4. Knowledge and experience of open science and data.
  5. Experience in conducting scientific analyses such as experimental and monitoring design, data management, analysis and communication of results.
  6. Knowledge and experience with federal, state, Tribal and local environmental data management systems.

Water Board employees may be eligible for benefits. Health benefits and leave programs are available for most permanent, full-time employees, and some permanent, part-time employees. Statement of Qualifications

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be submitted along with the State Application and serves as documentation of candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. It should be typed, no more than two (2) pages in length, using Arial size 12-point font , and normal margins.

The SOQ must be organized in order of the numbered statements below and include a response for each statement including total years of experience:

1. Describe your experience with communicating information about science-related/technical topics into understandable and meaningful stories for broad audiences.

2. Describe your experience working collaboratively as part of a diverse interdisciplinary team and maintaining positive working relationships amongst team members.

3. Describe your knowledge and experience in applied aquatic/freshwater sciences, or related field, to inform environmental policy or program management.
