Job Description and Duties

Members of the Berkeley Enforcement and Emergency Response Division of the Department of Toxic Substances Control are responsible for protecting human health and the environment through inspections and enforcement of violations of the Hazardous Waste Control Laws. We are searching for individuals to join the Enforcement and Emergency Response Division to provide administrative support functions including Receptionist, Correspondence, Management Assistance, Data Entry, File Service, and Branch Assistance.

As an Office Technician you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide support by serving as a contact for visitors to the branch
  • screen incoming mail and responds to inquiries for the Berkeley/Clovis EERD branch, refers complex inquiries to the appropriate respondent, either the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory), a supervisor, or an inspector
  • serve as a back-up to the Front Desk Receptionist/Office Technician in the office, including the Administrative Service Branch, drafts, edits and/or finalizes correspondence, including internal memos, letters, inspection reports, and Enforcement Order and Settlements, related to the responsibilities of the branch
  • Review draft correspondence, inspection reports and Enforcement Orders and Settlement for proper format
  • Remediate and upload documents to the DTSCs databases
  • Support the Staff Services Analyst

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams PowerPoint) and experience utilizing different databases
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to apply sound judgement to the professional environment, evaluate situations accurately, and take effective action

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired.
