Compensation: $150,000 - $180,000 annually, depending on degree level, experience, and licensure

Job Summary:
The Director of Clinical Services will work as an integral member of the school’s senior leadership team with the responsibility of leading and shaping the delivery of best-practice transdisciplinary clinical services to all SOIS students and their families.

Position Type & Expected Hours of Work
  • Full-time, Monday-Friday
  • Rotating on-call and in-person coverage 24 hours and on holidays
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Provide Leadership and Direction for the Shrub Oak Clinical Team
    • Oversee and manage all clinical services provided by the interdisciplinary team across the school, community, and campus.
    • Lead staff hiring, orientation, coaching, and development to build a high-performance team.
    • Supervise Clinical Coordinators and clinical staff, ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
    • Manage the clinical department's budget and expenses.
    • Ensure clinicians address the individualized needs of students and their families.
    • Participate in and oversee clinical on-call rotations for emergent needs.
    • Clinical Program Oversight
  • Support the delivery and integration of best practice clinical services across the school
    • Ensure high-quality clinical services, including OT, PT, SLP, and Mental Health, in alignment with IEP mandates.
    • Oversee student evaluations and ensure assessments inform treatment interventions.
    • Facilitate collaboration between clinical staff and Education, Health & Wellness, Recreation, and Residential teams for cohesive student support.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of interventions and student outcomes in the electronic record system.
    • Provide direct clinical services to students in individual and group settings as needed.
    • Lead staff education programs, guiding faculty in the delivery of treatment and education.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Research to uphold best practices in clinical treatment models.
    • Develop systems to leverage data for individualized, evidence-based interventions.
  • Serve as member of transdisciplinary leadership team
    • Communicate essential clinical and administrative updates to senior leadership and administration.
    • Collaborate with leaders in Residential, Education, Health & Wellness, Training, and Recreation to align clinical care across all student services.
    • Contribute to school strategy, goals, and the implementation of the strategic plan with the senior leadership team.
  • Positively engage with external stakeholders and entities
    • Address student, staff, and parent concerns regarding clinical services, providing recommendations and reporting per policies.
    • Partner with families to enhance engagement and satisfaction with clinical treatment.
    • Ensure clinical services comply with school district standards and mandates.
    • Collaborate with accrediting bodies to maintain accreditation standards.
    • Support parent engagement through training and support groups.
    • Participate in community and professional education on clinical and related topics.
    • Represent the school in public forums, promoting Shrub Oak’s mission, goals, and clinical practices to influencer groups and industry leaders.

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
  • PhD in Psychology, or related degree or master’s degree in social work, Mental Health Counseling, or related field is required.
  • Active NYS licensing in good standing as PsyD, Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or another licensure in a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience including a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial role in a clinically focused special needs setting is required; experience in school setting is preferred.
  • Experience in working with adolescents on the autism spectrum and other developmental disabilities is required, experience with autism in a school and/or residential setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents with mental health and behavioral challenges is required, experience in a school and residential setting is preferred.

  • Flexible and adaptable under pressure with the ability to make sound decisions in evolving situations.
  • Skilled in multitasking and managing complex situations with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software; ability to learn internal database systems.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice.

Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
