Position Summary

Provide instruction. Teach and assess law enforcement academy and criminal justice students, contribute to department work, engage in professional development and contribute to shared governance obligations including accreditation. This 12-month instructor may also teach continuing education certified courses as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Teach and assess courses including Basic Police Science, Criminal Investigation, Advanced Patrol/Traffic Law, Introduction to Corrections, Criminal Procedure, and others based on qualifications as needed. Faculty teach traditional/seated, online, hybrid and live virtual courses and may be needed for evening classes at the main campus and continuing education classes.
  • Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the rules and regulations of the college.
  • Adhere to department guidelines.
  • Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time. Faculty members shall hold classes and/or laboratory sessions as scheduled unless dismissal or other arrangements are approved by the appropriate administrator.
  • Ascertain that every student, teacher, and visitor in the criminal justice program adhere to safety standards.
  • Prepare and submit copies of syllabi to appropriate administrator for each class taught.
  • Participate in assessment procedures established by each respective department.

Experience

Education:

Hold and maintain certifications, licenses, and necessary expertise for criminal justice career instruction and generalist or specialist Missouri POST certified instructor.

Master’s from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice or Masters in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in each subject area of instruction required.

Work Experience and Industry Knowledge:

Five years of full-time work in a criminal justice related field.

Teaching experience including teaching online, preferably at the college level, and experience with course level assessment preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Working in a professional educational and teaching environment, this position requires sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, light lifting, grasping, talking, seeing, hearing and repetitive motion. Strict adherence to all safety regulations for all program participants in physical fitness, defensive driving, firearms, defensive tactics and all other program work.
