NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP). *This position will be open until filled. Qualifications:Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Cotton ginning and quality related research and ARS policies and procedures. OR MA/MS Degree in Agriculture, Engineering, Physical or Biological Sciences, or Economics. Understanding of saw and roller ginning impact on cotton quality, fiber quality measurements and analyses, and USDA-ARS research environment, regulations, and requirements.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power PointSASDuties:Applies cotton ginning and fiber quality expertise and experience to assist program to improve cotton quality through innovative ginning techniques, mentors new incoming researchers in aspects of cotton ginning and quality and ARS systems, and leverages knowledge of historical cotton ginning research and ginning systems to classify and catalog the CGRU?s collection documents and media for digitization and preservation. The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees. Physical Requirements of Position: Position requires work in a normal office environment. Occasionally, work in an agricultural field or processing facility setting will be required, which could include uncomfortable temperature, humidity, weather, and dusty environments. Classifies and catalogs collection for preservation. 50%Assist and provide insight to cotton quality improvement program. 25%Mentors new CGRU researchers. 25%Other:Health and Safety Considerations: The enrollee may occasionally work in areas where gin machinery is operated. They will be trained on the hazards of the machinery and provided appropriate PPE.
