ABOUT THE POSITION

A Cost Accountant will collect data, allocate costs, and prepare reports on material purchases, labor, equipment, repairs, assembly, and operating expenses to ensure established procedures are followed. Perform analysis and investigation to improve or revise cost system. Will complete cost analysis for new products or service so that Astec can maintain a competitive edge. Support general ledger by completing journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements while working closely with the Controller.

 

LOCATION: This role will support our location in Princeton, WV.

 

Key Activities & Responsibilities

  • Prepares internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
  • Coordinates product cost process including calculating, reviewing and analyzing machine and labor hours, overhead costs and allocations, production rates, raw material costs and manufacturing process changes.
  • Initiate and monitor physical inventory and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy, investigate variances, and resolve issues.
  • Must review and analyze inventory reports, conduct research, and perform analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability.
  • Close jobs in a timely manner and work on special projects as required.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.
  • Answer's accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Assist in audits, general ledger preparation, and reconciliations.
  • Actively support Astec's core values, mission statement and vision statement.
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities as directed

 

To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S) from an accredited University or College
  • (3) to (5) years of accounting experience preferred. An equivalent of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Cost accounting experience, knowledge of JD Edwards ERP, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Lotus and Microsoft preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger transaction recording and reconciliation
  • Detail oriented, organized, and self-motivated
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software

Office

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment and occasionally a manufacturing shop plant environment. Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting or standing.
