Job Description

Position Summary Tidal Basin Group, the leading experts in disaster and emergency management consulting, has an opportunity for an experienced Controller. The Controller will be responsible for oversight of all accounting and reporting activities. As an Assistant Vice President, the Controller will be involved in supporting presentations to the finance committee and board and will work closely with the senior leadership team.

The Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a team of 15 staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash, and general accounting. The Controller will ensure that Tidal Basin has the systems and procedures in place to support growth in our Federal business. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.
In addition, they will partner with the CFO, Deputy CFO, senior leadership, and the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as Federal compliance SME for finance/accounting organization (FAR and CAS), continuously improve internal controls environment, operating procedures, and monthly and quarterly close.
  • Lead cash forecasting and oversee bank/credit card reconciliations.
  • Supports budgeting and forecasting, monthly and quarterly financial performance reviews, tax preparations and tax accounting, cost control, and reporting to parent.
  • Coordinate all audit activity.
  • Drive efficiencies and support implementation of new functionalities in the accounting system (Sage Intacct).
  • Support integration of recently acquired business unit.
  • Model high levels of service excellence to both the finance/accounting team and to business operations, being a trusted advisor with a business partnering mindset.
  • Develop and deliver executive level presentations on the company financial performance, processes, policies, and team goals.
  • Manage relationships with key accounting stakeholders.
  • Foster and cultivate a team environment, support professional development and growth of the team.
  • Complete required corporate ongoing training as directed.
Skills and Competencies:

Education and Experience Required:

  • Degree in accounting, finance or relevant field and CPA are required. Master’s Degree is an advantage.
  • 15+ years of experience including prior experience in audit firm and post-audit corporate financial reporting experience.
  • People management experience.
  • Federal Government accounting experience (FAR and CAS).
  • Service industry and asset management experience preferred.
  • Strong skills in Excel, presentations, and computer systems, including systems implementation experience.
Work Location:
  • This position will be based in Alexandria, VA.
  • Hybrid, in office 3 days a week after onboarding.
  • Travel is estimated at 15%, as needed.
