HumCap’s client in the industrial distribution industry in Dallas is searching for a Controller to join their team. With a 75+ year legacy of service in Texas, this company has experienced exciting growth. In the past 5 years they have increased revenue by 3X and employ close to 500 people. The company has a vision to grow to $1 billion. The Role
This position will report into the COO and have the opportunity to grow from Controller to CFO in the long term. The COO is looking for a strategic thinker with a consultative mindset who can lead the team in a growth-oriented way. You will be part of helping a company scale from $500m to $1b.
 
The Controller is an integral part of the Company and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with budget process. This includes managing the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, providing insight/recommendations to the finance team for the annual budget and developing strategies to improve the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the accounting team taking a “hands on” approach to accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit and general ledger functions.
  • Support and advise senior management with timely and insightful reporting and commentary on monthly financial results supporting operational management.
  • Support senior management in driving performance against financial and operating benchmarks and forecasts.
  • Own the financial close and reporting cycles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with outside tax consultants to assist with the annual tax preparations.
  • Own the external audit preparation and execution with outside auditors.
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to drive cost and waste out of the organization.
  • Monitor cash flow, approving cash disbursements. and transfers, including signatory authority.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
  • Conduct financial analysis, modeling, and cost management.
 
  Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Masters degree is highly preferred.
  • Prefer CPA certification.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Consultative, strategic, and growth oriented mindset.
  • Ability to implement/improve processes and internal controls.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting, including consolidations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
