Responsibilities

As our Antenna Design Intern, you will be responsible for research, development and implementation of SkyGig’s innovative beam steering antenna technologies at the heart of our best-in-class mmWave wireless technology. Your primary R&D responsibilities will include:

  • Design advanced beam steering antenna structures for mmWave systems
  • Architect, implement, and verify antenna and RF components throughout a product design cycle
  • High-frequency PCB design for manufacturability
  • Testing of RF and mmWave antenna systems and RF components
  • Work with vendors on RF components evaluation for the antenna target specifications
  • Translate product and system requirements into detailed antenna and subsystem specifications
  • Work across a cross-functional collaborative team of bright engineers and scientists
  • Prepare technical documents and reports and participate in design reviews

This is a paid full time (40 hr/wk) in person position located in the Bay Area, CA.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical competency and experience to own the project, from the design concept phase to prototyping, and testing. They will also need to have the desire to adapt and grow in our vibrant startup culture.

Requirements

  • Possesses, or is currently pursuing, a PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Electromagnetic, RF/Microwave engineering, or Antenna Design, or holds a Master’s degree with relevant industry R&D experience.

  • Deep understanding of antenna, electromagnetics, and microwave engineering concepts and the ability to apply them to innovate and solve complex problems

  • Proven experience in design, fabrication, and characterization of advanced antenna systems in research or industry settings

  • Expert at EM full-wave solvers (such as HFSS)

  • Expert at industry standard PCB design tools

  • Experience in writing scripts for complicated simulation models (using MATLAB or other programming languages)

  • Experience with design of high-frequency PCBs for antenna or integrated systems

  • Hands-on experience in characterization of antennas in far-field or near-field measurement setups and familiarity with RF test equipment

  • Comfortable working and solving problems independently as well as collaboratively within a team

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and comfortable explaining technical concepts to the rest of the team

Preferred

  • Experience with mmWave antenna design, fabrication, and testing

  • Design experience with phased arrays, beamforming, beam steering, and/or reconfigurable antennas
